MANIFEST 03 / RESEARCH AUTOMATION

Research automation.

In CIA operations, I automated a research workflow that saved hundreds of thousands of hours of human effort. I also gave presentations within the agency on navigating bureaucracy, overcoming organizational hurdles, and building the tools people needed.

The problem

A research workflow required substantial human effort. The technical opportunity was to automate that work.

My role

In CIA operations, I automated a research workflow. I also gave presentations within the agency on navigating bureaucracy, overcoming organizational hurdles, and building the tools people needed.

The decisions and work

The technical change focused on automating the research workflow. My broader agency work also included presentations on navigating bureaucracy, overcoming organizational hurdles, and building the tools people needed.

Those presentations involved making technical work clear to the wider organization.

The outcome

The automation saved hundreds of thousands of hours of human effort overall. I also shared lessons within the agency about navigating organizational hurdles and building needed tools.

What I took from it

The work connected building a useful tool with explaining its value to the organization. The presentations addressed how to work through organizational hurdles.
