MANIFEST 04 / SEARCH SYSTEMS

Less duplicate work.

I added a bounded cache and coalescing for concurrent queries, so matching in-flight requests could share execution. I included regression tests for the new behavior.

The problem

Matching requests could repeat the same query work. Reusing a completed result and sharing a query that was still in flight addressed two different parts of that repetition.

My role

I added a bounded cache and coalescing for concurrent queries, together with regression tests for the new behavior.

The decisions and work

I bounded the cache rather than allowing stored results to grow without a limit. I also added coalescing so matching requests already in flight could share execution.

The regression coverage made the cache and concurrency behavior part of the change itself.

The outcome

The implementation supported bounded result reuse and shared execution for matching concurrent queries, with regression coverage.

What I took from it

Reducing duplicate work was a behavior change, not just a cache setting. The boundaries and concurrent behavior needed to be understandable and testable.
